From Wanderers to Possessors
After the death of Moses, God met with Joshua the new leader of the Israelites, and gave him a new promise. He declared that Joshua was to lead the people to possess the land in front of them.
Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. Joshua 1:6
This marked a shift in the life and lifestyles of the children of Israel. Till that day, they were nomads. Wanderers who roamed behind a cloud across the wilderness. God's promise shifted them from being wanderers to possessors.
Even as we near the end of this year, the call of God to us rings out the same. He wants us to move from being wanderers to possessors. He has set before us, everything that we need to fulfill our purpose according to His will. It is up to us to move forward and seize that which is ours.
But before we move to possess, we must be brave. Our faith must be filled with boldness. Our courage is not in worldly might but in the Spirit of the Lord who leads us. Without courage, like the 10 spies, we might miss out on the blessing that is set before us because we continue to see ourselves through the eyes of a coward.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Secondly, we need to be obedient to the voice of God. Bravery without obedience will result in abject failure. If we say we put our trust in the Lord, then we must walk according to every word He has given us. Only through obedience can we inherit the promises of God.
If we remain brave and obedient, we will find ourselves moving forward to possess everything that was promised to us and every wall on the way will come crumbling down.
