Lessons from a cup of coffee
Everyone loves a piping hot cup of coffee. Some of us would prefer an ice-cold one with some whipped cream or ice cream on top. But almost no one would go for a cup of coffee, that used to be hot and has been slowly cooling down for a while on a table. There is something about a lukewarm cup of chai or coffee that makes it unpalatable.
It is a very real possibility our spiritual lives could end up like a lukewarm cup of coffee.
Spiritual mediocrity is the result of being content with one's spiritual life. We often unknowingly let ourselves get too comfortable with being stagnant and before we know it sin consumes us.
“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:15
The Bible is very clear in its position toward lukewarm believers that are neither hot nor cold. We must rise up, rekindle the fire, and shift our desires towards God.
Spiritual complacency is the devil trying to deceive us. Through the help of God, we can come out of this. The Holy Spirit is present within us to help us every step of the way, all we need to do is lean on him and let him guide us.
