Recipe for a Revival
As we have been meditating and praying for revival this year, we must also not lose focus on what is required from us, for the promise of the Lord to come to pass.
A revival is a supernatural event. It is the new wine that Jesus spoke about. But this new wine cannot be poured into old wineskins. Doing so, will not only ruin the wine but will also end up bursting the wineskins as well.
The first ingredient required for a mighty revival is a spirit of humility in the lives of God's people.
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
We must develop a right standing before God. This can only be achieved through a Humble heart. Without humility in our relationship with the Holy Spirit, our agendas will get in the way of what the Lord wants to change in our lives.
The promise in the above scripture is conditional. God Almighty refers to his people as ones called by his name. He expects us to remain Holy - set apart from the rest of the world. Not only in name but in deeds and lifestyle. The world is filled with pride and selfish ambition. To be set apart from the world is to live a life of humble reverence to God.
The best example for True Humility is found in Christ Jesus. He is our guiding light and teacher on how we can lead a humble life before God. He is the personification of humbleness.
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death-- even death on a cross! Philippians 2:8
If we will walk with Christ and let His Spirit guide us in humility, we will see the Lord heal our land as He hears our prayers.
