Spiritual Mirages

Mirage - an optical illusion caused by atmospheric conditions

There is a phenomenon that is common in areas with hot and humid conditions. When the temperature is high enough, the travelers start seeing illusions in front of them. Sometimes these illusions even resemble what they are looking for (Like water in the desert).

Have you seen a mirage before? That pool of water floating on the road, only for it to disappear when you cross it.

It is possible to have spiritual mirages in our walk of faith. We sometimes see things that look real on the way to our promised land. These images will deter us, deceive us and sometimes even cause us to deflect from the path that the Lord has asked us to move forward in.

God had promised Canaan, a land following with milk and honey to his people. The 10 spies who went to spy on the land were terrified at the sight of the inhabitants and their fortified walls. They gave a bad report saying the Israelites look like grasshoppers in front of them. Even though they saw the land flowing with milk and honey, their faith was limited. Hence they gave up. Many of us are not overcomers because of our low sight and low faith.

The Israelites were frozen in fear for 40 days due to Goliath's loud declarations. They were not ready to face this giant. The image they saw before them was too great for them to overcome. Even the entire army of Israel and its great King were cowering in fear to a single man.

The easiest solution to dispel a mirage is to continue on your path. Eventually, you will see that the image vanishes and the path continues. Likewise in the life of a believer, it is important to continue in the path that God has called you to. When 10 spies chose to retreat, Joshua and Caleb chose to push forward. When the army was hiding, David decided to face the giant.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight” 2 Corinthians 5:7

Magnify God in front of your problems.

While Saul and the people magnified the giant Goliath, David magnified the Lord. He was able to take over Goliath because he believed in the power of the Lord. Your mountains can be moved only by faith. Your faith should be strengthened in order to receive the promises. You have to believe in the great hand of the Lord, his mighty strength that can deliver you from any oppression, attack, and problems that are delaying your promotion, your recognition, your healing, your breakthrough.

“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit says the Lord Almighty”. Zechariah 4:6

If the enemy takes up a weapon to destroy you, God can use the same weapon to destroy the enemy. Goliath was slain by his sword. Rely on the power of God. We are more than just conquerors. When you overcome the enemy, the deliverance is not just for you but also the people around you. Stay strong in your faith and keep your vision steady. Remember we are overcomers.

“In this world, you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world!” John 16:33

The Lord is with you throughout your life in each area of your struggles. He will give you victory. You will overcome by his spirit, his power, and his might. What you see isn't always what is in store for you. God's reality for you is bigger than the illusion that you see on the way.
