There shall be showers

As we begin a new year full of promise and post 2020 anxieties, it looks like the world in 2021 needs restoration from the battering the previous year has left on us.

Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before. Joel 2:23

The prophecy that is declared through prophet Joel is that the Lord is preparing a heavenly downpour on his people. This time, it is not a modest precipitation of everyday blessings but in fact, He promises to send down both the Former and Latter rains.

In an increasingly non-agricultural society, the anticipation of rain is downplayed. But any farmer would tell you that there are two very different showers of rain that are required to guarantee a grand harvest.

The Former rain comes down to soften the ground and prepares the land. The Holy Spirit first comes to prepare our hearts for the seed of the word of the Lord to take root. Without the Former rain, when the latter rain comes, the crops would be too fragile and would not survive the force.

The Latter rain produces maturity in the crops akin to the Holy Spirit producing fruits in our lives. The anointing of the Holy Spirit will guide us in the process of our decision making in these indecisive times.

This year, we have been promised to be drenched in a torrential downpour of the Holy Spirit and this will bring about the restoration in our lives.

The LORD will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, Grass in the field for everyone. Zechariah 10:1
