What are you doing here ?!
And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
It is funny how time changes things.
Only more than a month ago, Prophet Elijah (Drought causer, Fire bringer, and Rainmaker) was challenging the prophets of Baal on top of Mt. Carmel. 1 Kings Chapter 18 narrates a riveting tale of how the Man of God openly challenged the prophets of Baal and won.
The epic duel resulted in fire falling from heaven, only to be followed by heavy rain that the Lord provided to end the drought in the land.
Chapter 19 paints a different picture - The same Elijah is now hiding in a cave after running for his life for the past 40 days and nights. Depressed, He resorts to making suicidal prayers. To this hiding man of God, does the voice of the Lord ring out, almost quizzically - "What are you doing here !?"
Elijah was a man just like us. James 5:17
Often in our lives, we get caught up in momentary victories that we let our guard down. We forget that after every hill, there is a valley. If we are not careful, we will find ourselves like Elijah did, running away from challenges, and hiding in places that are not meant for us.
If we shift our focus from the Lord of the victory and to the victory of the Lord, we keep ourselves open to depression when the second wave of the attack hits. Our enemy might be a defeated foe, but he is relentless.
But Our God is not only the God of our mountains, He is also the God of our valleys. If you find yourself in a cave today, these points might help you out -
Remember, you are not alone. The same God who was with you on the mountain is with you in your caves.
Understand who you are in Christ and the authority you are carrying.
Believe in God's promises.
The Devil is a liar - Don't heed to his lies.
You are engraved in the palm of the Lord's hands and your future is safe.
Now ask yourself - What are you doing here !?
